Parents waited 4 days to get help for 5-month-old after ‘horrific weekend’ of abuse, sheriff says
(Gray News) - A mother and father in Texas are accused of fatally beating their 5-month-old girl during a “horrific weekend” of abuse, authorities said.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the reported abuse took place at a home in Houston on Sept 29.
Investigators said baby Ja’nae was partially paralyzed and throwing up blood, yet her parents 23-year-old Jasmine Ellison and 23-year-old Glenn Wayne Smith waited four days to call 911, KTRK reported.

Ja’nae was taken to a hospital suffering from multiple rib fractures and a brain bleed.
“Her prognosis was “grim” when she entered the hospital,” Gonzalez said.
A few days later, the 5-month-old died from her injuries.
“Medical staff said the injuries were likely caused by aggressively shaking the child,” prosecutors said.
During that time, Ja’nae’s father was allegedly abusing her, and Ellison failed to take action, KTRK reported.
Smith and Ellison were arrested for injury to a child and serious bodily injury.
Smith was initially being held on a $1 million bond, but it was later reduced to $250,000.
Ellison’s was set at $150,000
