Flu and COVID vaccines being rolled out across Arizona
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s only August, but flu and COVID-19 shots are being rolled out across some Arizona pharmacies and doctors’ offices this week.
CVS already has the flu shot at all its Arizona pharmacies. A company spokesperson says pharmacies will start to receive the updated COVID shot “within the next few days.”
According to a quick search on the CVS website, flu shots are available now, while COVID vaccine appointments open on Wednesday at some CVS locations.
But if someone wants to get vaccinated, is now the time to do so?
“My recommendation is, if you had an opportunity to get the vaccine today, please take that opportunity. If you have the opportunity to get the vaccine in a month, please take that opportunity. Get it when it’s convenient for you and it’s available,” said Dr. Michael White, Chief Clinical Officer at Valleywise Health.
As for who should get the COVID vaccine, Dr. White pointed out that the CDC still recommends everyone 6 months and older get the new COVID vaccine. But there are some who are more at risk than others.
“Those folks that have hypertension, you know, obesity, diabetes, those folks that we know that are at severe risk than if they have another illness could put their health at jeopardy. Those are the ones that are the most at risk,” Dr. White said.
Dr. White said you can get both shots at the same time, so there’s no need to book two appointments unless you prefer to do it that way.
