Drivers keep getting stuck on Yuma’s renowned ‘Famous Foothills Boulder’
YUMA, AZ (AZFamily) — An infamous rock keeps taking out cars in a busy Wendy’s parking lot in Yuma’s Fortuna Foothills.
The medium-sized boulder decorates the curb and has become the talk of the town.
Many cars have gotten stuck and dozens of pictures shared on Facebook show drivers who have found themselves in a peculiar situation.
“I think it’s kind of ridiculous. In order to hit the rock you have to go over the curb and keep going. I don’t know how that’s possible,” said Josuha, a Yuma resident.
It’s become a sightseeing destination and even has a five-star rating on Google Maps.
“We’ve had people come back from out of town and say they’re here to see the national landmark,” said Anthony Delgado, an employee at Wendy’s.
Whether it’s distracted drivers or people rushing to get their hands on a one-dollar Frosty, Delgado has seen it all.
“I’ve seen people get their radiators completely ripped off or beat off. I’ve had days in the morning when I come in for work and there are pieces of vehicles that we have to clean up,” said Delgado.
Delgado said they’re now seeing drivers in big trucks and jeeps accepting the rock as a challenge and attempting to climb it.
He said the rock has definitely brought in some new customers.
“Come down, get a Double Stack and a Frosty, take some pictures and enjoy it while it’s still there in case they get rid of it,” said Delgado.
