COCONINO COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — Detectives are investigating what they believe to be a murder-suicide after two bodies were found at a campsite in Coconino County earlier this week.

Just before 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, a 911 caller reported finding two unresponsive people at a campsite south of Stoneman Lake Road. Coconino County sheriff’s deputies and Mormon Lake Fire crews arrived to find two people lying outside their vehicle.

They were pronounced dead at the scene. According to the sheriff’s office, both died from gunshot wounds.

Their identities have not been released, but investigators say they are family members from the Phoenix area.

The sheriff’s office says there are no ongoing concerns for public safety following the shooting, which remains under investigation.
