4th-grader arrested for allegedly bringing gun to school in Prescott Valley
PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ (AZFamily) — A fourth-grade student in Prescott Valley was arrested on Monday morning for allegedly bringing a gun to school.
Around 10:15 a.m., Prescott Valley police responded to the main campus of Acorn Montessori School and met with a student who was reportedly found with a firearm. Police say the student admitted to bringing the gun to the charter school.
“The student cooperated and said the intention of bringing the firearm was to show it off, and there was no direct threat to students or staff,” Prescott Valley police said in a post on social media.
Police added that the gun was not loaded, and the student did not have any ammunition. The student was taken into custody.
“Parents and guardians are encouraged to talk with their children about the incident and the importance of gun safety,” the department continued. “We understand that this may be a frightening experience for many.”
The incident remains under investigation.
