PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Flagstaff man has been ordered to spend nearly two years in prison in connection with an arson case at Grand Canyon National Park earlier this year.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Dahntay Dunbar, 21, was sentenced to 20 months in prison and 60 months of supervised release after he pleaded guilty to arson in July. He has also been ordered to pay $20,146 in restitution for the crime.

Prosecutors say that in May, Dunbar entered a locked cabin within the park, which was his ex-girlfriend’s who wasn’t home at the time.

While at the cabin, Dunbar found clear liquor and reportedly dumped it on the bed. Feds say he then took a lighter, lit one of his former girlfriend’s shirts on fire and placed it on the bed before leaving.

Dunbar left the fire burning until a bystander spotted it and put most of it out before firefighters arrived. Feds say the cabin had fire and smoke damage to the walls, ceiling, and other parts of the structure.

Park rangers took Dunbar into custody a short time later, and prosecutors say he admitted to starting the fire.
