Phoenix man arrested for alleged human smuggling in Cochise County

BISBEE, AZ (AZFamily) — A Phoenix man was arrested last week for allegedly attempting to transport undocumented immigrants in Cochise County.

Around 3 p.m. on Thursday, deputies stopped a Toyota Camry on Highway 92 and Rio Vista Road near Bisbee. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office says deputies spoke with the driver, 37-year-old Dane Russell Canterbury, and found he was transporting two undocumented immigrants in his car.

U.S. Border Patrol agents responded and took the two undocumented immigrants into custody. Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office says Canterbury was booked into the county jail on felony human smuggling charges, where he’s being held without bond.

Detectives are still investigating.
