CHANDLER, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — There is fear and anger in one Chandler community following a string of dog attacks, one recently turning deadly.

One woman, who did not want to be identified, said she was walking her small dog Misty on Friday at Amberwood Park near Ray and Dobson roads when a black pit bull without a leash reportedly charged at them, grabbing her dog by the neck. “We were trying to pull the mouth open, anything we could do to distract the dog,” said the woman. “I was just so heartbroken, she was tiny.”

She said a man stepped in and helped her pull Misty from the pit bull’s mouth. She then rushed her to the animal hospital but her beloved dog did not make it. “My sweet dog who gave me a lot of happiness is now dead,” said the woman.

The Chandler Police Department said it responded to the incident last Friday and it wasn’t the first time. The department confirmed there have been at least nine reports about the same aggressive dog that attacked Misty. People who live in the neighborhood said they are fed up and want to see the dog seized from its owner’s home. Maricopa County Animal Care and Control said that can’t happen without a warrant.
