PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — Maricopa County Animal Care and Control asked for help on Wednesday with a 7-year-old dog named “Boyka” in a heartbreaking situation right now.

His owner was just deployed with the military, forcing her to make the difficult decision to surrender Boyka to a shelter.

She told the shelter her father couldn’t take Boyka since he lives in a retirement community that doesn’t allow dogs.

The staff calls it a sad situation for all involved.

”The owner has to make this difficult decision. They’re deployed. They’re serving our country and they’re doing a great thing and it’s just one of those things where they had to find placement for this dog, and we’re happy to give him the placement for the time being but we really want him to be in a loving home,” said Kim Powell with MCACC.

Anyone interested in adopting or fostering Boyka is asked to reach out to Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.

The Arizona Humane Society has a program called “Project Active Duty” that helps people in this situation out so that’s an option
