Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Kimbo dies from ‘bloat’
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is mourning a beloved member of their K-9 family. The department announced that K-9 Kimbo sadly died from Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus, more commonly known as “bloat.”
Deputies say on May 1, Kimbo was found unresponsive in his kennel. He was quickly taken to one of MCSO’s K-9 veterinarians, who determined the pup died from Splenic Torsion and bloat.
Kimbo was a beloved 4-year-old Belgian Malinois. Deputies say he “was a powerhouse of a dog, amazing partner, and a symbol for the ideal police canine.” He served in numerous SWAT missions, assisted patrol districts across Maricopa County and kept his partner, Deputy Stryker, safe every day.

“You will be missed K-9 Kimbo but never forgotten! Please keep Deputy Stryker and our K-9 unit in your thoughts as they process this loss,” the department posted on Facebook.
Deputies say in lieu of flowers for Kimbo, the public can donate to MCSO’s K-9 unit for the purchase of new ballistic vests for future dogs and fund a retired K-9′s medical account. If you would like to donate, visit at mcsoadvisorycouncil.org/mcso-k9-unit.
