Gemstone Fire burns 177 acres east of Kingman; 75% contained
KINGMAN, AZ (AZFamily) —Crews are starting to gain control of a wildfire burning near Kingman that has threatened over a hundred buildings and infrastructure.
According to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, the Gemstone Fire has scorched roughly 177 acres since it started on Thursday, 5 miles east of Kingman.
As of Friday night, officials say the fire is 75% contained.
Fire officials said the fire got some rain, and an engine crew will continue to patrol the fire on Saturday.
The flames are threatening 150 buildings.
On Thursday, fire officials said multiple high voltage powerlines and their state communications tower were down.
No homes have been evacuated.
About 60 firefighters are on the scene.
It’s unclear what sparked the flames.
