Lightning sparks 3 new wildfires in Tonto National Forest near Cave Creek
CAVE CREEK, AZ (AZFamily) —Crews are battling three new wildfires that ignited in the Tonto National Forest, and officials believe lightning is the cause.
On Thursday, the Deer Fire started east of Horseshoe Lake and northwest of Bartlett Lake in the Mazatal Wilderness. Officials say the fire is burning around 100 acres of grass, brush and timber.
People are urged to avoid part of the AZ Trail along the Mazatzal Divide Trail #23 as the fire is near the area. Authorities say smoke can be seen from State Route 87 and 188. The fire does not threaten any communities or buildings.
On Friday, the Davenport Fire sparked and burned 75-100 acres about two miles northwest of the Deer Fire.
Fire officials advise the public to avoid the Davenport/Mazatzal area from Deadman Wash to the north and South Fork to the east. The flames are not threatening any communities.
The Cane Fire ignited on Friday and burned around 50 acres of brush and pinyon pine in the Pine Mountain Wilderness.
Officials say the fire is about two miles from the MT Ranch and close to KV power lines. The public is advised to avoid Forest Road 16.
