Wally Fire leads to SET status for some Tonto Basin residents

Some people in Tonto Basin have been told to be on standby to evacuate after the Wally Fire has burned 400 acres northwest of Roosevelt Lake.

TONTO BASIN, AZ (AZFamily) — Some Tonto Basin residents have been placed on SET status due to a wildfire burning in the area.

The Gila County Division of Emergency Management has issued a SET advisory for all residents on the west side of state Route 188 in Tonto Basin. Residents in that area should prepare for possible evacuation.

The advisory was issued due to the Wally Fire (previously called the Walnut Fire) that was started by lightning on Sunday.

As of Monday night, the U.S. Forest Service says the wildfire has burned about 450 acres southwest of Tonto Basin.

About 75 personnel are assigned to fight the Wally Fire, as well as planes and a helicopter.

Other fire crews are also responding to the nearby Asher Fire, which is burning four miles north of Tonto Basin and two miles east of SR 188.

Several fires started in Tonto National Forest over the weekend, leading to evacuations of some campgrounds and recreation sites.
