McDowell Mountain Regional Park closed due to wildfire near Fountain Hills
Fire has reached 80% containment
FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ (AZFamily) — A wildfire prompted county officials to close McDowell Mountain Regional Park Wednesday afternoon and it remains closed as crews work toward full containment.

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said the McDowell Fire burned 90 acres and is 80% contained as of Thursday evening.
It was burning at the northwest end of the park and spread east and west before forward progress was stopped.
All firefighters are off the front line on Wednesday night but returned Thursday morning to mop up and secure the fire’s edge, officials said.
ADFFM said crews used an air attack at first, but firefighters on the ground quickly got around the fire.
The flames were stopped in multiple areas because of trails and washes, firefighters said.
The fire is not threatening any homes or buildings.
No injuries have been reported.
It’s unclear what sparked the flames.
