2 more students arrested for threats toward West Valley schools
MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — Police in Buckeye and Surprise have announced new arrests amid an ongoing trend of threats toward Valley schools.
Surprise police said that a 14-year-old student was arrested Tuesday for allegedly making a threat toward Valley Vista High School. Detectives say that the student wasn’t armed and that there was no threat to the community.
The student, who remains unidentified, has been booked into the Durango Juvenile Detention Center on charges of making a terroristic threat, a felony, and a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge.
It’s the second arrest connected to Surprise and Valley Vista this month alone. On Sept. 9, a different 14-year-old was booked on charges for making similar threats. In this case, the student said he made the threats as a “dare.”
In Buckeye, police said that a 12-year-old boy left a voicemail on Saturday to a former teacher at a Desert Sunset Elementary School in the city, in which he threatened to “shoot up” a classroom. He was arrested Monday night, and police say the threat wasn’t credible.
This is also the second related incident for Buckeye police, who recently arrested a 12-year-old girl for making a school threat to a South Milwaukee, Wis. school.
Last week, a teen boy was arrested in connection to threats made at 12 Phoenix area schools.
