Sun City viewer gets $16K returned following fraudulent wire transfer
SUN CITY, AZ (AZFamily) — Sandy Girard says that with the help of On Your Side, she has $16,051 back in her account.
“I feel like I could just, well, just jump up and down right now. I’m just so happy and grateful,” she told On Your Side’s Gary Harper. “I know for a fact that this would never have happened if I did not contact you.”
In a recent On Your Side report, Sandy explained how two life-changing events happened on August 22. First, her husband was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. And then, later that afternoon, she discovered that a scammer somehow accessed her Navy Federal Credit Union account and made two fraudulent wire transfers totaling just over $16,051.
“I, I just cannot believe this. I cannot believe this is happening,” she first told On Your Side.
Sandy immediately contacted Navy Federal about the fraudulent transfers and thought there was a good chance she’d get the money back because the transfers were still pending. But to her disappointment, the money eventually went through anyway.
Even after asking Navy Federal to investigate, Sandy says she was told their investigation could take up to two months or more, and there was no guarantee the money would even be returned. So, she contacted On Your Side.
“I was praying so hard that you would call me or send me an email. And you did,” she said.
We got a hold of Navy Federal and told them about how scammers stole money from Sandy’s account on the same day her husband underwent life-saving surgery.
At our request, they expedited their investigation and returned the two fraudulent wire transfers totaling $16,051 in less than a week.
Sandy says it never would have happened without On Your Side’s help. “I’ve cried many, many, many a tear about this, and I can’t express how happy I am. I did not want to cry in front of you for this,” she said, tearing up. Harper replied, “Well, this is one less thing to worry about, right?”
Sandy can now focus on her husband’s health without being distracted by the scammers who initially stole her money.
As for Navy Federal Credit Union, they were awesome to work with, and we appreciate their speedy resolution.
