PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A suspected thief has been arrested, and a local musician is back on stage after thousands of dollars worth of stage equipment was stolen from his truck right before a concert.

Musician Chauncey Jones is glad to have his equipment back after his friend spotted the stolen gear listed on Facebook Marketplace.

To get the equipment back, they set up a ruse with the help of police, and an arrest was made. Suspect Christopher Johnstone had a warrant out for his arrest. According to court documents, not only did they find some of Jones’ stolen equipment, but also a firearm.

Jones had a front-row seat to the whole thing. He says he’s happy the suspect got caught, and no one was hurt.

“Definitely a surreal moment seeing that happen. Never want to see someone put in jail, but it was definitely satisfying,” he said. “I’m not the kind of guy that wants to see bad things happen, but he should be held accountable for his actions.”

The community hosted a benefit concert to raise money so Jones could get his equipment back and play on the road. His next show is at The Duce in Phoenix at 7 p.m. on Friday.
