2 arrested after cocaine found when small plane from Mesa lands on California freeway

Two California residents who departed from Falcon Field Airport were forced make an emergency landing in Oceanside. They were arrested after cocaine was found.

MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Two California residents have been arrested after cocaine was found when their small aircraft made an emergency landing on a freeway after taking off from Falcon Field Airport in Mesa.

Police in Oceanside, California responded to the small plane that unexpectedly landed on State Route 76 near Canyon Drive around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 26.

The plane landed on the road without any reported injuries. The pilot reported engine failure as the reason for the emergency landing.

In a search of the airplane, police said a kilogram, or 2.2 pounds, of cocaine was found. Two suspects, 21-year-old Gabriel Leon Breit and 36-year-old Troy Othneil Smith, both from Oceanside, were arrested.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating this incident.
