Body found in Gilbert neighborhood
GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) — A Gilbert neighborhood woke up Saturday morning to find a woman dead on their street.
Around 4:50 a.m., Gilbert police were called to a neighborhood after a report of a body on the road near Lindsay Road and Melody Drive.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a 28-year-old woman dead in the street.
“It’s eerie,” said Matthies Leinen, who lives nearby. “Very unusual.”
Police said on Monday it was a suicide.
Neighbors say they woke up to police knocking on their doors to ask about the woman in the road. Leinen says there was crime scene tape and police cars in front of their homes for hours.
“It kind of puts a little chill on you because you don’t know what’s happening. You don’t know what’s going on when you see that large of a police presence right next to your home,” Leinen said on Saturday.
Many neighbors said they saw a white car they believe belongs to the victim, but they didn’t recognize the vehicle or the woman.
“At the end of the day when you find somebody like that it’s just scary. So, I pray for the family,” said Leinen.
“Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time,” police said in a statement.
