PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego holds a double-digit lead over Republican Kari Lake in Arizona’s high-stakes U.S. Senate race, according to an exclusive Arizona’s Family/HighGround poll released Thursday.

The poll found Gallego is winning 51% of likely voters compared to 41% for Lake.

As the race heads into its final month, the Democratic candidate’s lead is outside the margin of error of four percentage points. Part of what is driving Gallego’s lead is his crossover appeal with Republicans, women, and older voters.

Gallego has convinced 12% of likely GOP voters to back his candidacy, while Lake has just over 2% of Democrats.

The reliably Republican block of voters older than 65 is breaking for Gallego by a six-point margin: 50% to Lake’s 44%. With women, Gallego leads 56% to Lake’s 37%.

Gallego also has a strong lead among independent and unaffiliated voters, at 48%, compared to 40% for Lake.

“I think a little bit of that shine (Lake) had in the governor’s race has worn off,” said HighGround pollster Paul Bentz.

However Lake holds a sizable lead with voters ages 50 to 64, at 51% to 43% for Gallego.

The U.S. Senate race in Arizona is one of the most highly anticipated match-ups as the two parties battle for control of the narrowly divided Senate, which Democrats currently run.

Arizona’s Family/HighGround poll surveyed 500 likely voters from Sept. 26 through Sept. 29. Margin of error: ±4.38%.
