Free art show benefits Phoenix foster children
Something Good is sponsored by Papa Murphy’s
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Are you looking for something to do this week? A Phoenix photographer is hosting a free art night for a good cause, and that’s Something Good.
Photographer Lindsay McOien will host the “Lost In Bloom” art show at the BLOK photo studio near 7th and Fillmore Streets on Friday, Sept. 27, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The one-night-only gallery will benefit Free Arts, which provides art therapy for Valley foster kids and will raise awareness and resources for art programming that helps children overcome abuse and trauma.
She says “Lost in Bloom” is inspired by drawings she did as a child. “It’s really creating this kind of full circle moment. From what started as being these drawings that I did as a kid, to my professional career now, and giving back to the next generation of artists,” said McOien.
The event is free to attend, and all print sales will be donated to Free Arts.
Free Arts has been in Phoenix for over 30 years and also helps young people build relationships with mentors and professional artists.
“We’re all about expressive arts combined with adult mentorship. So ordinary people doing extraordinary things, building relationships and doing expressive art, exploring a sense of self, communicating that to others. And doing that in meaningful ways that helps build skills, helps build a sense that we can cope with our reality and make bright futures for ourselves,” said Matt Sandavol, Executive Director of Free Arts.
