Hip sushi spot in Phoenix’s Melrose district starts new happy hour
Delicious Japanese bites for $6 to $8, sushi rolls, too!
PHOENIX (AZFamily)—If you want a great happy hour and some high-quality sushi in the Melrose District, you must check out Sandfish Sushi and Whiskey.
They recently launched their new Sunset Hour menu, which is a great way to try the place without breaking the bank.
Sandfish is the second location after chef-restaurateur Engin Onural brought his brand and sushi knives to the Phoenix from Palm Springs in 2022.
Chef Onural is a Japanese-trained sushi chef who takes great pride in his various cooking accolades, such as participating in the Sushi Olympics and receiving a culinary certification from the Japanese government.
Sunset Hour is every day from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and all day Monday.
They have a great tasting small bite menu that costs between $5 and $10.
Be sure to try fan favorites like the spicy tuna tostada, which features tuna, unagi sauce, scallions, spicy aioli, sesame seeds, feta cheese, and microgreens.
The tasting menu includes Beef Gyoza, Brussels sprouts, salmon tartare and pork bao buns. The fish is flown in three times each week, giving nigiri lovers lots of options.
Their nigiri bites menu includes big-eye tuna, salmon, yellowtail and shrimp with avocado crema, serrano, and shallots. At happy hour, these items cost $6-8 each.
Sandfish also has Makimono, or rolls, on their happy hour menu.
The albacore roll with chili crunch, shiso and shallots is $8 on happy hour. The tuna with shallots and tobanjan aioli is $9.
Sandfish is also a whiskey bar with an entire wall of Japanese whiskies.
The aesthetic inside is wonderful, with a slick look that remains inviting.
