ADOT encourages public to attend meeting on Loop 101 project in northwest Phoenix
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Arizona Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting Thursday to help drivers and residents plan for the Loop 101 widening project in the Northwest Valley.
Construction will start Friday, September 27, and ADOT estimates it will take two and a half years to complete.
ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel is encouraging residents and drivers to attend the meeting to fully understand what the freeway will be like in the next few years.
“This is a chance to preview the construction before it even gets underway. So we want folks to be able to see, ‘Hey what does the project entail? What are we doing widening the freeway between I-17 and 75th Avenue?” he said.
In both directions from the west side of the I-17 to 75th Avenue, crews will be adding:
- One general purpose lane in each direction
- Widening the bridges
- Improving the interchange ramps
- Improving the frontage roads
The construction will require intermittent freeway closures. Nintzel says it’s crucial residents attend to plan their new commutes and to be able to share their thoughts and concerns about the project.
“These projects are never easy to do. They have to disrupt life in some way, whether it’s nearby residents or drivers who use the freeway. We know that, we try to mitigate that as much as possible,” Nintzel explained. “You can talk to our project team members in person, you can ask them the questions you want to ask; what to expect with construction like this taking place, especially if you’re a nearby resident.”
ADOT expects the morning and evening rush hours to be impacted as crews establish a work zone and maintain the same number of lanes on the freeway.
The public meeting is from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, located at 5600 W. Union Hills Drive in Glendale.
If you cannot attend tonight’s meeting, ADOT will post the presentation HERE.
