PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Four major freeway closures will affect those heading to northern and eastern parts of the Valley this weekend.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, stretches of I-10, SR 51, Loop 202 and SR 143 will be shut down as crews continue construction projects. In addition, I-17 in north Phoenix will be narrowed to just one lane this weekend, so drivers up north should expect delays.

Here are the freeway closures for Sept. 20-23:

  • Westbound I-10 closed between Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) and US 60 from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for paving and a traffic shift
  • Northbound State Route 51 closed between the I-10/Loop 202 “Mini-Stack” interchange and Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday for pavement sealing
  • Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) closed between Arizona Avenue and Loop 101 (Price Freeway) from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project
  • Southbound State Route 143 closed between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and I-10 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a traffic shift

Ramps that will be shut down:

  • Westbound I-10 on-ramp at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard
  • Westbound US 60 off-ramp at Priest Drive
  • Westbound US 60 on-ramp at Mill Avenue
  • Northbound I-17 off- and on-ramps at Dove Valley Road
  • Westbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Gilbert, Cooper and McQueen roads
  • Westbound Loop 202 off-ramp to Sky Harbor Boulevard

Freeways that will be narrowed:

  • Northbound I-17 narrowed to one lane between Loop 303 and State Route 74/Carefree Highway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements.
  • Westbound US 60 narrowed to one lane between Mill Avenue and I-10.

The I-10 westbound closure will affect those heading to the Valley from Pinal County or Tucson and those planning to attend Sunday’s Cardinals game in Glendale. Drivers heading to the game should use westbound/northbound Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to reach I-10 near 59th Avenue.

For those not planning to go to the game and need to get around the I-10 closure, use eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) to northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway).

For those heading to the East Valley and need to use the Loop 202 Santan, exit before the closure or use Germann and Pecos roads.

If you need to go to the airport this weekend, ADOT says take the westbound Loop 202 to eastbound I-10 to reach Sky Harbor Airport.

Drivers heading up north to Flagstaff should note that there are no specific detours this weekend, but are advised to consider traveling during the early morning or nighttime when traffic is lighter.
