PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Several freeways will be closed as construction work continues, including two large stretches of Interstate 10 in Phoenix.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, two separate construction projects will close opposite directions of I-10, and parts of the Loop 101 and Loop 202 will be shut down. In addition, drivers heading up north to the High Country will have to merge to one lane.

Here are the closures scheduled for Oct. 4-7

  • Westbound I-10 will shut down between the I-17 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and the I-10 “Stack” interchange west of 19th Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for paving and signage work.
  • Eastbound I-10 will close between US 60 and Ray Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for the Broadway Curve Improvement Project.
  • Westbound Loop 101 Agua Fria is closed between 51st and 75th avenues in the northwest Valley from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for work zone setup and pavement removal for the new widening project.
  • Southbound State Route 143 is shut down between Loop 202 Red Mountain and I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for a traffic shift.
  • Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will close in both directions at Loop 101 Pima from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge work. Drivers will not be allowed to cross under the freeway.

Freeways that will be narrowed for construction work:

  • Southbound I-17 narrowed to one lane between State Route 74/Carefree Highway and Dixileta Drive from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. both Friday and Saturday. The freeway will also be narrowed from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
  • Loop 202 Santan will be down to two lanes in both directions at Lindsay Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project. Lindsay Road will close in both directions at Loop 202.

Ramps/lanes to close:

  • Southbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound I-10
  • Eastbound US 60 off- and on-ramps at Mill Avenue
  • The westbound Loop 202(Red Mountain ramp to Sky Harbor Boulevard
  • The new westbound I-10 right lanes between Baseline Rd and 40th Street will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for a traffic switch.

Drivers should expect heavy delays for the eastbound I-10 closure. For those that need to head eastbound, use the Loop 202 Red Mountain to the Loop 101 Price and then head to the Loop 202 Santan to reach I-10 beyond the closure.

For those in the West Valley and need to get around the eastbound I-10 closure, use the Loop 202 South Mountain.

Drivers needing to get around the westbound I-10 construction can use northbound I-17 at the Split, near Sky Harbor Airport, and reconnect with I-10 at the Stack.

To avoid the Loop 101 Agua Fria closure in the northwest Valley, use Union Hills Drive or Bell Road. The Loop 101 Beardsley frontage road starting at 51st Avenue will only be open to one lane.

For drivers heading up north, expect delays and avoid using neighborhood streets to get around the closure.
