Man killed after being run over by truck near Phoenix gas station

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man is dead after a shooting ended with him being run over by a vehicle near a Phoenix gas station early Saturday morning.

According to Phoenix police, officers were initially called out to a shooting call near 35th Avenue and Union Hills Drive just after 1:00 am. When police arrived, they found a man, identified as 35-year-old Kyle Dorman, lying on the ground near the gas station. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Phoenix police say their helicopter spotted a truck in the area, not far from where the alleged crime took place. The truck was pulled over, and multiple people were detained.

Witnesses say a shootout broke out between the group inside the truck and the victim. However, the victim was then run over by the truck driver after the shooting.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the group inside the truck was inside the gas station. When they left, they got into an argument with another group of people in the parking lot.

Detectives say that the argument turned physical, and someone pulled out a gun and shot at the people in the truck.

Dorman, who was part of the group in the parking lot, also pointed a gun at the truck as it started to drive off, police say. It was then that the driver ran Dorman over in an act of self-defense.

Shots were fired at the truck, but no other injuries were reported.

Police say the pickup driver was taken into custody but later released because his self-defense claim was consistent with the investigator’s evidence. Once the investigation is complete, final charges will be made.
