TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) —Multiple people are in the hospital after they were reportedly run over while riding bikes near the Arizona State University Tempe campus on Sunday morning.

Three people have been taken to the hospital in serious condition, but they are expected to survive. Tempe police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

“It’s scary, but unfortunately I hear about it all too often so I’m not surprised. It’s happened close to me,” said Alex, who bikes College Avenue often but was not involved in this accident.

College Avenue is shut down near the crash scene as crews investigate. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
