PD: Lake Havasu City homeowner mistakenly shoots, kills man he was living with
LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ (AZFamily) — A man is dead after he was allegedly shot by the homeowner where he lived, who thought he was an intruder in Lake Havasu City.
Officers responded to the shooting around 11 p.m. Sunday at a home near Kiowa Boulevard and Barranca Drive, just east of Highway 95.
Officers arrived and found a man who was shot in the chest at the back of the home. First responders administered life-saving measures before the man was taken to the hospital, where he later died, police said.
Initial investigation found that the homeowner, 52-year-old Justin Wilcox, thought the man was an intruder and fired his weapon in response. Police said the man was not an intruder but someone who lived at the home.
This investigation is ongoing, but police said there is no threat to the public.
Wilcox was arrested and is facing charges of second-degree homicide and manslaughter. He was held on a $500,000 cash-only bond and placed in custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
