Arizona man indicted after allegedly decapitating his mother while high on meth
GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has announced the indictment for a man accused of killing and then decapitating his mother at an apartment in the West Valley.
Alejandro David Gonzalez, 25, has now been indicted on first-degree murder, felony domestic violence, vehicle theft and tampering with physical evidence after the death of 49-year-old Teresa De Jesus Cruz Rubio.
Authorities say they responded to the home just before midnight on Friday, Sept. 30, near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road after someone called 911 saying that her sister was dead.
When officers arrived, they found Rubio under a blanket with her head “near the body,” according to arrest documents.
Family members told police they believed Gonzalez, who had a history of mental issues, had recently been released from jail and was staying with her.
Documents state that during an interview with detectives, Gonzalez said that his mother had picked him up from jail recently, got him some food and dropped him off at her apartment. He then reportedly admitted to smoking meth with a man on a bicycle he just met.
According to documents, Gonzalez said that the man stabbed his mom and then made him do the same. Police say there is currently no evidence that any other suspect was involved in Rubio’s death, but detectives are investigating those claims.
Arizona’s Family found Gonzalez had a history of meth use and mental health issues, and his crimes escalated as time went on.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office told Arizona’s Family that most recently, after allegedly breaking a window near one of the gas pumps of a Fry’s Food Store. Hours later, he reportedly killed Rubio.
Gonzalez is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday. He is currently being held on a $1 million cash-only bond.
