PHOENIX (AZFamily) — We’re nearly a month away from Election Day 2024! If you plan to vote in Maricopa County, there are some important deadlines coming up you need to know about.

  • Monday, October 7 - This is the last day to register to vote. Here’s what to know about the voter registration deadline.
  • Wednesday, October 9 - Early ballots mailed out.
  • Friday, October 25 - The last day to request an early ballot.
  • Tuesday, October 29 - The recorder’s office suggests mailing your ballot back by this day so that it arrives in time.
  • Tuesday, November 5 - Election Day.

Last week, Arizona’s Family got a look at the county tabulation center where preparations are well underway so vote centers can open next week. Election workers are preparing the tabulators that you’ll use if you vote in-person. County officials say your ballot gets stored in a tamper-proof lock box with a seal, then it’s escorted by guards back to the tabulation center at the end of the day.

When it comes to voter registration, Taylor Kinnerup with the recorder’s office said many do wait until the last minute. In September, nearly 40,000 people registered to vote in the county, she said.

“It really does come down to the wire for some people,” Kinnerup said. “We’ve seen a big uptick in voters in the last month. That is pretty common when it comes to elections. This is a pretty cyclical increase.”

The county recorder’s office says there are roughly 2.5 million registered voters in Maricopa County. About 1.9 million are on the active early voting list. If you’re on that list, Kinnerup says you do have options.

“You can mail it back to us; you can drop it off in a ballot dropbox,” she said. “You can go vote that ballot in person, or you can completely disregard your mail-in ballot and go vote in person on Election Day.”

Here is more information about how to track your ballot.
