SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Former Arizona Cardinals star and Ring of Honor inductee Adrian Wilson is facing charges after police said he got into a physical fight with his wife last month.

The Scottsdale Police Department confirmed the 44-year-old was arrested on June 1 around 6 a.m. at his home on domestic violence-related charges of assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

Police said they are all misdemeanors.

Court documents say Wilson was supposed to meet his wife for dinner the night before but never showed up.

His wife said she hired a private investigator and discovered he was having an affair, paperwork said.

Wilson came back to the home, and his wife said he was drunk and upset because she had put separation paperwork in the guest house where he stayed, court records said.

Wilson went to his wife’s bedroom and started throwing things around, calling her names, police said.

Police said the wife told them Wilson pushed her and got on top of her while on the bed, holding her down and putting his hand over her throat.

Investigators said Wilson grabbed a handgun out of the safe but never pointed it at anyone and took off.

One of their daughters called the police.

Court paperwork said Wilson threatened to kill himself.

Wilson later arrived back at the house, put the gun in the garage and was taken into custody.

Police said he denied getting physical with his wife but admitted to breaking things.

Wilson also said he was depressed and had a mental breakdown, court paperwork said.

He talked about working with the Carolina Panthers and how hard it was to be away from his family.

Wilson was the Panthers’ vice president of player personnel for a year but multiple reports say he was let go earlier this week.

The Cardinals drafted him in the third round of the 2001 NFL Draft and he spent 12 seasons with the Red Birds.

He was selected to five Pro Bowls and earned an All-Pro selection in 2009. Wilson was also part of the 2008 team that made it to the Super Bowl.

Wilson spent some time with the New England Patriots and the Chicago Bears before signing a one-day contract with the Cardinals when he retired in 2015.

He was inducted into the Cardinals Ring of Honor that same year.

After his playing days, the franchise hired him as a scout and then in 2019, he was promoted to director of pro scouting.

Two years later, he was promoted to vice president of pro scouting.

Last year, he went to the Panthers.

Adrian’s next court date is scheduled for next week.
