Phoenix Suns assistant Kevin Young next head coach at BYU, reports say
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Phoenix Suns will soon be looking for a new associate head coach.
Current Suns assistant Kevin Young is reportedly finalizing a long-term deal to become the next head coach of the Brigham Young University Cougars, sources have told numerous outlets including CBS Sports. He would replace Mark Pope, who was hired last week to take over at Kentucky.
Young, currently the highest-paid assistant in the league, has been with Phoenix since the team’s NBA Finals run in 2020-21. He was reported to be a finalist for several open NBA coaching positions, including the Brooklyn Nets.
Sources told ESPN that Young will continue working with the Suns in the playoffs as he begins assembling a coaching staff.
