Former Phoenix Suns player Cameron Payne arrested following disturbance in Scottsdale
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Former Phoenix Suns player Cameron Payne was arrested early Friday morning following an incident in Scottsdale.
Scottsdale police responded to reports of a disturbance in the area of 68th Street and Chaparral Road around 2:45 a.m. When they arrived, officers began speaking with two people, one of whom was later identified as Payne.
While details about the reported disturbance have not been released, Scottsdale police say Payne was later arrested on two charges, including refusing to provide a truthful name and giving a false report to law enforcement.
Payne was booked into the Scottsdale City Jail and later released on his own recognizance.

After playing college basketball at Murray State, Payne was selected 14th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2015 NBA Draft. He later played for the Chicago Bulls and had brief stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors.
After briefly playing overseas, followed by the Dallas Mavericks’ G League team, he signed a two-season deal with the Suns in June 2020.
Payne played for the Suns for four seasons, often as Chris Paul’s backup point guard. He was traded to San Antonio in July 2023 and then waived a few months later.
He signed with the Milwaukee Bucks before the start of the 2023-24 NBA season and was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in February.
