Tuna kept at unsafe temperatures, moldy peppers found at Phoenix-area eateries

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — Every week, Arizona’s Family looks up restaurants recently inspected by Maricopa County’s Environmental Services Department. Restaurants with some of the highest numbers of “risk factors,” considered major health code violations by inspectors, are selected for our Dirty Dining Report. Here are the Valley restaurants that did not make the grade for Jan. 3, 2023:

Blue Wasabi Sushi & Martini Bar - 2080 E. Williams Field Rd., Gilbert

3 violations

• Employee handling dirty dishes then clean dishes
• Employee touching ready-to-eat fruit with bare hands
• Squid and spicy tuna not held at proper temperature

Ocean Blue Caribbean Restaurant and Bar - 6140 W. Chandler Blvd., Chandler

3 violations

• Worker not washing hands properly
• Cooked beans not cooling properly
• Employee not cleaning containers correctly

Tipsy Chicken - 1933 W. Main St., Mesa

3 violations

• Employee blew into pair of gloves before putting them on
• Worker washing hands without soap
• Employee not cleaning bowl properly

Mr. Zekes - 1422 W. Warner Rd., Gilbert

3 violations

• Frozen fish sitting on counter to thaw
• Cooked chorizo kept past discard date
• Raw eggs stored over ready-to-eat foods

Zipps Sports Grill - 1860 E. Warner Rd., Tempe

3 violations

• Large storage containers in handwash sink
• Poblano peppers with fuzzy, white organic matter
• Raw chicken stored above cooked hot dogs
