Cockroach in kitchen, workers not washing up among violations at Phoenix area restaurants

Other violations found at two East Valley restaurants include a live cockroach in the kitchen and workers not washing their hands properly.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) Every week, Arizona’s Family looks up restaurants recently inspected by Maricopa County’s Environmental Services Department. Restaurants with some of the highest numbers of “risk factors,” considered major health code violations by inspectors, are selected for our Dirty Dining Report. Here are the Valley restaurants that did not make the grade for Jan. 17, 2023:

New York Bagels ‘N Bialys - 1455 N. Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale

3 violations

  • Food employees not washing hands properly
  • Containers of blueberries with white organic matter
  • Spinach and cooked chicken patties not kept cold enough

Prep and Pastry - 7025 E. Via Soleri Dr., Scottsdale

4 violations

  • Staff member handling dirty dishes, then clean dishes
  • Cook cracking egg then not washing hands
  • Packages of strawberries with excessive organic matter
  • Live cockroach next to hand wash sink on cook line
