Cockroaches in kitchen, slime in ice machine among health code violations at Phoenix area restaurants

A Tempe pita restaurant and a popular Scottsdale coffee shop were among restaurants and eateries that made this week's Dirty Dining list.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5)Every week, Arizona’s Family looks up restaurants recently inspected by Maricopa County’s Environmental Services Department. Restaurants with some of the highest numbers of “risk factors,” considered major health code violations by inspectors, are selected for our Dirty Dining Report. Here are the Valley restaurants that did not make the grade for Feb. 7, 2024:

Filiberto’s - 1158 W Washington Street #101, Tempe

3 violations

  • Cook cracking eggs then didn’t wash hands
  • Pan of raw chorizo stored over a pan of cooked chili rellenos
  • Raw fish stored over lettuce

Black Rock Coffee - 8670 E Thomas Road, Scottsdale

3 violations

  • Slime growth inside the ice maker
  • Cream cheese stored by the oven
  • Bottle of cleaner stored with sugar packets

Princess Pita - 1158 W Washington Street, Tempe

3 violations

  • Employee’s food and drink next to the prep table
  • Raw eggs stored over pickles and vegetables
  • Spray bottles with unknown liquid not labeled

Habanero’s Mexican Grill - 14870 N Northsight Blvd, Scottsdale

3 violations

  • Employee cut finger, wrapped it with paper towel, then kept working
  • Employee handling raw meat and then sauces without washing hands
  • Cooked beans not kept at proper temperature

India Oven - 1315 S Gilbert Road, Mesa

3 violations

  • Live roaches in the kitchen
  • Tubs of raw chicken not kept at proper temperature
  • Organic debris on knives
