Surprise Police announce arrest 3 weeks after deadly shooting
SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamily) — Police have arrested a suspect connected to a shooting that left a man dead at a home in Surprise last month.

Authorities announced Tuesday the arrest of Roger Diaz, 23, who is accused of the shooting death of 35-year-old Isaiah Rivera.
Surprise police were called to a shooting at a home near Greenway Road and Grand Avenue on Sept. 19 around 11:30 p.m. Officers arrived and found Rivera, who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital, where he died on Sept. 27.
Investigators say that both knew each other, and this was not a random act of violence.
On Sept. 23, Surprise Police, along with the U.S. Marshall’s Service, found Diaz and took him into custody without incident.
He was booked on aggravated assault charges, which were changed to first-degree murder because Rivera died. In addition, he also faces charges of discharging a firearm within city limits and disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Surprise Police Department at 623-222-4000, 623-222-8477 or email crimetips@surpriseaz.gov.
