Hiker flown to safety after rescue from Camelback Mountain in Phoenix
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A woman is hospitalized after being rescued from Camelback Mountain early Tuesday afternoon.
Just after 12 p.m., technical rescue teams from Phoenix and Tempe responded to the Echo Canyon Trailhead at Camelback Mountain for reports of a hiker experiencing a medical emergency.

Crews found the woman about three-quarters of a mile from the mountain’s base, and she was flown by helicopter to the parking lot below. An ambulance then transported the woman to a hospital for precautionary measures.
Fire officials did not elaborate if the medical emergency was heat-related, but the temperature in Phoenix reached 109 degrees shortly after 12:30 p.m.
An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for Phoenix until at least Friday night. See the latest forecast here.
When those warnings are issued, Phoenix closes three popular hiking trails, including Echo Canyon, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s unclear if the woman began her hike before the closure went into effect on Tuesday morning.
