Flying for Labor Day Weekend? What to know about the weather
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Friday is of course a big travel day leading up to Labor Day weekend.
If you have plans to fly out of Sky Harbor Airport or somewhere else in Arizona, there could be a few trouble spots around the country.
The two major airports worth keeping an eye on for Friday are Chicago and Detroit. There could be some severe weather in those areas, as shown by this Friday outlook from the Storm Prediction Center.

Because severe weather can be spotty and hard to time, do not assume that flights will be cancelled or delayed in Chicago and Detroit. However, it is worth checking on your flight on Friday to make sure things are on time.
While widespread severe weather is not anticipated across the U.S. on Friday, there will be some scattered thunderstorms for parts of the southern U.S. into the mid-Atlantic coast.

Therefore, it is also not a bad idea to check on your Friday flight to cities like Houston, St. Louis, Charlotte and Washington, D.C.
While there is a slight chance of some early Friday morning rain showers in the Phoenix area, there should not be any major weather issues flying out of Sky Harbor on Friday.
