Hottest Phoenix summer on record will be official this weekend
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s always hot around Arizona in the summer, but it has been exceptionally hot this summer.
Last year, there were countless national headlines about the record-breaking summer, but this summer will actually break that record.
As of Thursday, Aug. 29, the average Phoenix temperature has been 99.0 degrees. Keep in mind, that is factoring in both high and low temperatures. That is an amazing 2-degree increase over the 2023 summer average of 97.0 degrees.
With only two days left in August, there is no way that this year will fall below last year.

Summer weather records officially end on Aug. 31 because weather records use the “meteorological” calendar for seasons. This makes things easier for record-keeping. It allows for meteorological summer to start on June 1 and end on Aug. 31.

Astronomical summer is probably what most of us are more familiar with. This is determined by the tilt of the earth in relation to the sun. The last full day of astronomical summer will be Sept. 21. On the morning of Sept. 22, the autumnal equinox will occur, which will mark the start of astronomical autumn.
