Cooler weather for the last few days of summer
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A mild and breezy Friday is on tap for the Valley, while high-country communities in Northern Arizona will see chances of rain and thunderstorms.
A trough of low pressure is moving toward Arizona from Southern California. The storm system will bring gusty winds to Arizona today, with Valley winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour, gusting to 30 miles per hour and stronger winds in the mountains.
Dry air in place will limit storm chances across much of the state’s deserts. Look for sunshine and a high of 96 degrees this afternoon. We’ll be even cooler tomorrow with more sunshine but a high of only 92 degrees. Morning temperatures will be in the 60s and 70s this weekend.
The slow-moving low-pressure system will bring showers and thunderstorm chances to the high country today and tomorrow. Very high-elevation snow is possible at about 10,000 feet, although only light accumulation is expected.
Sunday will bring a return to dry weather across the state and a warm-up. The Valley will warm to about 100 degrees on Sunday, with highs as warm as 104 by next Tuesday. Dry weather is likely in the Valley for next week.
Sunday marks the official start of astronomical fall with the occurrence of the Autumnal Equinox. Meteorological fall began September 1st.
